Cedar Essential Oil
INCI: Juniperus virginiana
Virginia Cedarwood Essential Oil is obtained by steam distillation of the heartwood of Juniperus virginiana. Although botanically classified within the Juniperus genus, it is internationally recognised in perfumery as Virginia Cedarwood. It is characterised by its warm, woody, slightly sweet, and balsamic aroma, bringing a sense of calm, stability, and natural elegance. It is primarily produced in North America.
Traditionally used in skincare and hair care formulations, Virginia Cedarwood essential oil is particularly appreciated in products designed for oily skin and oily scalps due to its balancing and astringent properties. It is widely incorporated into soaps, lotions, massage oils, men's grooming products, and woody fragrance compositions. Its rich, warm aroma also makes it an excellent base note in natural perfumery and aromatherapy blends.
Extraction Method: Steam distillation of the heartwood.
Origin: North America.
Contraindications: Considered non-toxic when used as directed and properly diluted. It is recommended to use this essential oil in moderate concentrations in cosmetic formulations. As with all essential oils, a patch test is advised before topical application.
Blends beautifully with Benzoin, Bergamot, Cinnamon, Cypress, Frankincense, Jasmine, Juniper Berry, Lavender, Lemon, Neroli, Rose, and Rosemary essential oils.
